Emergency Medicine of the Future Demonstrated at ACEP16
“innovatED” to Feature Earthquake Emergency Response Simulations and State-of-the-Art Technology
Oct 16, 2016

Las VegasDemonstrations by nearly 50 companies of cutting-edge technologies and devices are being featured this week in Las Vegas during the ACEP16 Scientific Assembly where more than 8,500 emergency medicine professionals are discussing the preeminent issues in emergency medicine and participating in educational courses. 2016 innovatED is presented by Janssen Cardiovascular, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and Samsung.

"Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals is a global specialty biopharmaceutical company committed to providing products that help practitioners manage the pain of patients in the acute care hospital setting,” said Jodi Devlin, Vice President and General Manager for Hospital Acute Care of Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. “We take pride in supporting ACEP and share a dedication to providing patients the highest quality and safest care."

These best-of-the-best innovations are being showcased against a back drop of true-to-life emergency department displays, including three equipped trauma bays. Participants will experience the current thinking and best practices which encompass many of the daily life-saving activities in today’s emergency departments.  Each day during ACEP 2016, innovatED will also feature simulations of an emergency response to an earthquake.

“Emergency medicine is built on a foundation of innovation and improvisation with a ticking clock in the background reminding us that in an emergency, seconds count,” said ACEP President Rebecca Parker, MD, FACEP.  “innovatED is the place to see the latest and greatest technology coming soon to an emergency department near you.”

In addition to the demonstrations of technology, innovatED will feature live simulations of emergency response during an earthquake throughout ACEP16.  The simulations are scheduled for Sunday (10:00 am to 10:20 am), Monday (2:50 pm to 3:10 pm) and Tuesday (2:50 pm to 3:10 pm).  To see last year’s simulation events:

innovatED will also feature the mHealth Toolbox, an interactive workshop designed for healthcare providers interested in exploring health tech innovation, and incubatED. incubatED will offer a sneak peak of unreleased emergency department products from start-up companies that have not yet been brought to market. innovatED will also feature a state-of-the-art comfort care room for palliative care in the emergency department.

Reporters can obtain credentials and access to the Exhibit Hall by coming to the ACEP Media Relations Office at Mandalay Bay Convention Center (MBCC)/South, 2nd level, Room Lagoon J, beginning Saturday, October 16th.  innovatED is open throughout ACEP16, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Sunday, October 16th through Tuesday, October 18th.
